  • Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition releases on Android

    By Connor Sheridan

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is now available on Android, more than a year and a half since the updated role-playing classic hit iOS, Mac, and PC.

The app is $9.99 on the Google Play Store (with in-app purchases) and is playable on any Android 4.0 device or later.

The Enhanced Edition sees the addition of three new characters and 400 improvements made to the original game.

There are three new characters, Neera the wild mage, Rasaad yn Bashir and Dorn Il-Khan. Each character brings with them new story lines, adventures, new areas and additional hours of gameplay.

There is also a new adventure called The Black Pits which provides 15 levels of arena styled combat challenges, over six hours of gameplay and complete control and customization of up to six players.

The original Baldur's Gate was one of BioWare's breakout hits when it released in 1998, spreading the Forgotten Realms far beyond its origins as a Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting.

It was the first title to use the Infinity Engine, which would later power the Icewind Dale series and Planescape Torment. Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity and inXile's Torment: Tides of Numenera are billed as successors to the engine's tradition of tactical combat and intricate character development.
