Try resetting the game and use 7E100700 instead so he'll have 0/200.

Either way I got to the summoning sequence and it let him walk around with 0/0 HP & then went back to the airship sequence immediately after an encounter

That cecil death code might come in handy for some "no cecil" games. The only time you'll really have to use him is around mysidia (before the twins) and in the kaipo inn.
