      • Hey Tony, hate to syphon your time with demands like some other forum goer does, but I would be curious to see whether you could find a Mega Man helmet-less code. I know that the palette modifiers alter both the character at the title screen of Mega Man 2 and the in-game on, indicating that the model is the one and the same. Give it a shot if you are interested. I am sure MM1 also has the model and the other Mega Mans have it hidden away somewhere as well.

I had a decent look through yesterday and glitches but nothing concrete.

        • Rune, I've never done much with palette type codes before, so probably won't work on that one. Although, you mentioning Mega Man did prompt me to download MM Wily Wars and start playing around with it.

            AW5T-AA3C
Most enemies and bosses die automatically as soon as they appear on screen. The few that don't die, can be killed with one hit. Works on all 4 games. Turn code off before final bosses in Mega Man 1 or else you may get stuck.

              • Kinda fun to go back through Megaman 1 and Megaman 2 with the sliding ability. I was thinking about doing the same thing for the NES versions, but I'm sure the programming for sliding isn't there. :-(

Megaman: The Wily Wars (E) Genesis

                AMSA-EA4N
Enable sliding in Megaman 1 and Megaman 2 games. Press Down + C to slide. Can use the 2 codes below to have longer slides.

                FXSA-EAFR
Megaman slides twice as far. Press Down + C to slide. Only for Megaman 3 or Wily's Tower. Will work with Megaman 1 and Megaman 2 games if you add this code: AMSA-EA4N.

                AMRT-EA7J
Megaman keeps sliding until you hit an obsticle or edge. Press Down + C to slide. Only for MM3 or Wily's Tower. Will work with Megaman 1 and Megaman 2 games if you add this code: AMSA-EA4N. Use caution not to slide off an edge that would kill you.

Good idea helder. These codes are relatively easy to make, so maybe I'll just write a quick guide (as opposed to the long ones I usually write).

It's going to be awhile before I can get around to making a guide, so I'll just post a condensed version. This method has worked on 4 out of 5 games that I've tried it on so far.

How to make "Walk on Air" codes:

I'm going to use Gens Tracer as my reference, but method will work on any emulator/debugger that has assembly logging ability. No RAM searching necessary.

Have your character standing at an edge where he will fall if he walks off it. Make sure your logger is set to only record instructions once. Turn on your ASM logger and start moving around. Do everything EXCEPT fall off the edge with the logger running. Turn the logger off. Now turn the logger back on and walk off the edge. Turn the logger back off.

Since the assembly logger only records instructions once, the second time you started it, the logger should record the beginning of the routine for falling off the edge. So find the break in the log (where you stopped and started) and the very first address it shows should be the address we're interested in. Find the conditional branch that leads to that address and change it so that it never follows that path. Some games will only have one conditional branch leading to it, some games will have several.

Most games will let your character drop back down either by letting go of the directional pad, or by pressing the Jump button. If you press the jump button, your character will jump up higher before dropping back down (which can be very useful).

When I tried this method on Megaman Wily Wars (Genesis), it not only lets Megaman "walk on air", but when he jumps, he doesn't come back down. If you jump again, he goes up even higher. VERY cool code except for one small side effect... he doesn't come back down until you shut the code off. Ugh. Trying to figure out a fix for that one. If anyone else wants to figure it out, please do. The code I've got so far is: $02AD00:4E71.

Anyways, hopefully that short guide will do for now.

                              • Nice guide but one question: What debugger has the trace once feature? Is it the Gens Tracer? I don't think the MESS debugger has this feature unfortunately.
