Here's a code that lets you change who dies when fighting Neifirst. The code can be easily modified so that any character you want will die. I'm not going to add the code to the db because the code has a drawback... if you go into the "Home" to rearrange your characters, you will lose Nei. This can of course be fixed with a Game Genie code, but doesn't seem too useful. Just posting it in case someone can use it.
Phantasy Star 2
AMRT-AAH8
Rudo dies when fighting Neifirst instead of Nei.
except for Rolf (unless you give him any names like mine is Adam which is my middle name) right? because he's a main character
can you do the same for Phantasy Star IV like Hans dies instead of Alys?
Can you post a save state right before Alys dies? And remember, I'm not familiar with Phantasy Star IV at all, so it may take a little while to get things figured out.

Either save 15 or save 16 from here. Both save states and SRAM are included:
So I don't waste a bunch of time, is there someplace in Phantasy Star 4 where I can "rearrange" my characters? Similar to the "Home" in Phantasy Star 2 where you can choose different characters to join your party.
The normal method of doing a "1 hit kill" code won't work with this game because the routine for checking if the enemies hp is zero is also used by your characters (so you also die with 1 hit). I looked where the enemies hp is first loaded and found a suitable replacement "Move" instruction (thanks again to Pugsy's 68000 instruction list) that *should* always move a value of zero into the enemies hp RAM address. Tested many times with enemies and bosses and seemed to work fine, and your characters damage taken is normal.
As soon as I can figure out where I can add/rearrange new characters in this game, I'll start working on the Alys not dying code.
Honestly, I don't think a code to keep Alys alive is going to be worthwhile. If you keep her alive after she is supposed to have died, there are a bunch of things you need to avoid doing in order to keep the game from glitching. Here's a list of what to avoid from Kaloes' faq:
1. Do not go to Rykros without Alys.
2. Do not get Hahn *you will have to many people later*
3. Do not get Rune without Alys in the party the game will sometimes glitch and he wont follow you or act like hes in the party *read above how to fix.*
4. Do not go meet Saya in Krup without Hahn.
5. Do not go save Demi as Alys will die like in the normal game and then this trick will be worthless.
6. Do not wall walk to get to Nurvus. Not having Demi will cause the game to completly freeze when beating Zio. The game will pan left then up and then stop.
7. Do not meet father Dorin without Alys because the game will freeze and don't meet him anyways cuz you will lose Rune and the game glitches sometimes without him.
8. Do not get Rika early the game will freeze because you got to many people. Get her at the end of the game by wall walking and talking to the door then heading to the end of the place where seed is and then get her. *doing this trick she is now a optional character.*
Combusto, as you can see, the code you wanted to keep Alys alive would be full of problems. If you're really set on keeping Alys alive, use the guide that terpsfan linked to.

what if i don't go into the "Home" then everything will be normal?
anyways, i'm little tired of Phantasy Star series sorry, one where they lose a party member is one thing i don't like about Phantasy Star series. it's so lame i guess it happens in other RPG games like Final Fantasy, et as well? but Dragon Quest and Shining Force don't have one.
if you said i don't like RPG then i will stop play them and move it along with other game genres
before someone say no shitposting, i apologized for making requests for Phantasy Star series in the first place. i will learn to think before i post
