  • Does your "Ninja Gaiden" MAME cheat codes work for the game's parent, which is "Shadow Warriors"?

Fighting - Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Wow, I'm suprised that you chose to pick those specific games in the game's series. I'm not suprised about the series, of course. But the fact that you chose UMK3 instead of MK2. And SF3 instead of "SSF2: The New Challengers" or "SF2: The World Warriors", since both those games were the most popular/best games in the series.

I never played Street Fighter III: Third Strike since I can't run it on MAME. I forgot the driver status of that game and I can't check MAWS since the website is down. But I remember the game either being too CPU intensive or the driver status is 'Preliminary' or 'Imperfect'. If I remember correctly though, I believe the driver status is 'Good'. I think I just wasn't able to play it in MAME since it was too CPU intensive.

I wish MAMEWorld/MAWS would fix it's website because for the past few days, the site has been down. When you visit the site, it says "This Account Has Been Suspended".

    • MAME emulates CPS3 games just fine. If you really want to play those Capcom games I suggest you use Final Burn Alpha or Kawaks. They run those games much faster and smoother than MAME in the kind of computer you have.

Oh, and SSF2: The New Challengers is neither the most popular nor the best SF. Turbo or Super Turbo are the best ones from that era. SF3 is the best for hardcore fighting players because you actually have to know your stuff to master the game. SF2 and SF4, are great but are also easier and more accessible to cater to the vast majority of people. That's why SF3 was not popular, it was just too hardcore.

Of course, as do I. I just happened to like MK2 and SSF2: The New Challengers the most.

I assume you are referring to "Super Street Fighter II Turbo" and "Street Fighter II' - Hyper Fighting"?

In the options of those type of games, when they give you the choice of "Turbo Mode" or "Normal Mode", I always like to choose "Normal Mode". It gives me alil bit more time to execute moves rather than just press random buttons quickly. Back in the day, at the arcades, I noticed that people tended to just press buttons quickly rather than execute specific moves while playing in "Turbo Mode". This led to people winning because of luck, rather than skill. Of course there were some exceptions. I was never a big fan of fighting games though. I like a select few series and that's it. That was the genre that I was/am the least skilled at. Probably because I just didn't enjoy it as much as other genres.

Speaking of Primal Rage, I find it rediculous about that whole censorship of that "Chaos' Golden Shower" fatality for the SNES. I find any and every censorship in video games rediculous. But that one particular case just didn't make sense to me. The mother found pissing on a character more upsetting than seeing all the other gorey fatalities? Compared to many other fatalities for that game and other games, that wasn't that bad at all.

                  • How many people do you think actively make MAME cheat codes? Besides of course Nolberto and Pugsy.

Also, I was told that this site is basically the only site that still actively makes NES cheat codes. Because GSCentral doesn't really actively make NES codes anymore. Every couple weeks a couple NES codes will trickle out from that site. So my question is, is there really no other website that makes NES codes anymore? If not, that's a shame.

Splatterhouse - I already tried before your request but I kept getting a crash. I might try again.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike - I already tried before your request I forgot how to change the memory for this one.

I'm sure there are a few people that use the Mame cheats, thought there aren't a lot of hackers so you don't see a lot of posts for it. As far as NES codes it's a slow trickle for the most part because many of the basic hacks have already been found over the last few years. We hackers look for new things that may interest people, or things that may be outside the box (usually more difficult depending on how skilled the hacker is).

As far as GSHI vs GSC code generation, it really varies from day to day between the 2 sites. I've noticed more conversation over here than over there, but as far as code generation there are a few hackers that drop bombs (codes they have been hacking for the week or for a few weeks) over there, where as there is a steady trickle (codes that are usually hacked/posted the same day here) for the most part (some days I've seen 1 or 2 posts here, but it's usually during the work week) over here. I know a few hackers that prefer waiting until they have enough (or what they feel is enough) to post. I know Viper187 would drop pages of codes at a time when he went on his binges.

I am not sure that NES hacking will completely die out (since the NES brought back the gaming community to the USA), but I think the hacks will get harder due to the easy cheats running out. I think we need more active hackers in the community to keep things running smooth, or we may start to notice things slow down dramatically if no one takes the torch when the older hackers move on.

                        • What do you think led to the downfall of the NES hacking scene? (Besides the basic/easy hacks being already fulfilled) I would have thought that the NES hacking scene would be on the rise due to these newer generation game sytems offering the ability to play NES games on their system. But I guess that didn't happen.

It's definitely the fact that the newer generation has no idea about the older consoles as they were not around when we were (our NES/SNES/Genesis is their X-Box 360, PS3, Wii, etc). Also the NES had one of the first commercial cheat devices for the market to become aware about. After the ball got rolling with cheat devices, people became familiar with codes they could cheat with via these hacking devices. After so long the system manufacturers were tired of 3rd party developers tinkering with their system's games, and started implementing techniques to combat the problem (which is why we needed master codes SNES, key codes for the N64, etc to get some games to run with our cheat devices attached).

After years of battling these 3rd party developers they finally found the answer with the addition of the internet to their consoles. Now they are able to send out an update to the consumer hardware to upgrade firmware whenever they want, thus killing any hope of a commercial cheat device for these systems as no 3rd part developer is willing to invest in something that can be broken so easily. Also most of the newer systems feature some sort of encryption that only allows authorized products to work with the system, again putting another nail in the coffin of cheat devices in general.

Since game hacking has been out of the public eye for some years now (as a marketable product for the mass market), it's led to what you see today. We have WiirdGui for the wii, but again you don't see it in any leading department store, or anywhere where it would catch the attention of the mass market. So even though they can play these older games on their newer systems, it's not really known to them that they can cheat if they look hard enough (Wii only from my understanding, and possibly some PS3's that haven't been patched with the most recent updates).

                              • Why wouldn't those newer game systems produce cheat devices themselves? This way they can make additional money.
