  • Poke-Spam, or a New Way to Look at an Old Game

You all know how much you hate those annoying email ads everyone has come to call "spam". Well, judging by how frequently those end up cluttering your spam folder...you might be able to see where this is going: there are six different kinds of Pokemon that I refer to as "spam": Rattata, Pidgey, Spearow, Weedle, Caterpie, and Zubat. This is because of how irritatingly frequent these six species show up in random battles, regardless of where you choose to roam around in the tall grass. Also annoying is how low of a level you usually encounter them at--anywhere from level 2 to around level 16. Most of the time, your own Pokemon will be at MUCH higher levels, yet they don't seem to be immune to running into these tiny pests.

There is also a Pokemon I refer to as "liquid spam": Tentacool. You will run into TONS of these guys...and almost nothing else, while Surfing from one place to another.

I've even fielded a party of six level 100 Pokemon, all with VERY high speed stats, yet I can't seem to avoid running into a level 2 Pidgey or a level 7 Zubat every five steps or so. This is, without a doubt, one of the biggest stumbling-blocks this game has, and gives the otherwise nearly flawless gameplay a huge black mark.

To combat this, I've come up with two very good solutions (one better than the other): spam Max Repels (they eliminate all but the very strongest of wild Pokemon--such as the deadly level 44 or 46 Golbat on Victory Road), or use a "no random battles" cheat code. You can find such a code for practically every Pokemon game ever made (sans X and Y, of course--those are hosted on the still "cheat-proof" 3DS).

Seriously, Nintendo, when are you going to wise up and see that you're going to make some people shy away from your games if you don't let them cheat (some games are either insanely difficult as a whole, or contain extremely frustrating sections)?
    Tempus fugit, ergo, carpe diem.

Time flies, therefore, seize the day.
