  • Why is the Sega Model 2 Emulator playing games in black and white color?

Why is the Sega Model 2 Emulator (version 1.0) playing games in black and white color? House of the Dead and Indy 500 both work but they have no color. The color is black and white. Why is this and how can you fix this?

Either the games are not yet compatible with the emulator, or its a region problem. Make sure that the region detection is set to auto, or that you're using USA roms with the NTSC setting.

I read that with versions 0.9 and newer, you need a video card that has/supports pixel shader. If your video card does not support pixel shading, than the games will be displayed in black and white.

Redone rasterizer color decoding and texture mapping. Now it works the same way the real hardware
does, performing all the same table lookups and calculations, so color should be accurate now. The
color decoding is now done at pixel shader level so you'll need a PS 2.0 capable video card in order
      to run the emulator now.
My 128 mb ATI Radeon 300X SE video card must not have "pixel shading". Do you know where I can safely download an older version of Sega Model 2 Emulator? Preferably version 0.8. Because the latest version is 1.0 and the version before that is 0.9 and both of them use pixel shading. I'm assuming my video card does not have pixel shading and that is why the color is in black and white. So I need to find version 0.8 or older. Does anyone know where I can find it?

P.S. If you believe this is not the cause of the games being in black and white, please let me know. I'm just assuming that is the cause of the problem.

Your card supports PS 2.0. That's not the problem.

I found an older version (8.0b) and the games work in color. So the color for the older version of Sega Model 2 Emulator works fine but the newer versions of Sega Model 2 Emulator has the color in black and white. If my video card supports pixel shading, then how come the games are in black and white? How do I fix the problem? Because I'd rather use the newer version instead of using an older version.

Are those unlicensed roms? maybe that has something to do with it.

No they are legit roms. They are House of the Dead and Indy 500. Both game's color is in black and white. I also tested a few other games and all the games were in black and white.

Also, when the Sega Model 2 Emulator is loaded/open and I click on "Emulator > Options" nothing happens. Whether I have a game loaded/running or whether no game is loaded, when I click on the Options nothing happens. No options screen appears.

How do I fix the color?

I found out why the options button is not working. They haven't implemented that into the emulator yet.

But I still can't figure out why games are being played in black and white. I checked and my video card does support pixel shading 2.0, so that shouldn't be the problem. Everywhere I read, the black and white problem seemed to be because of someone's older video card not supporting pixel shading. But my ATI Radeon X300 SE supports pixel shading 2.0. So I have no clue why the games are being played in black and white. If anyone knows why and/or how to fix it, please let me know.

TLDR : Search and download m2emulator v1.0 ps2.zip . Replace the exe in your emulator directory. Enjoy.

I know it's been a hella long time, but I came across the same problem and FINALLY found out a solution. I registered to post this message.
I own a monoCPU (p4 2.2ghz) and a newly bought radeon 9550 (which supports PS 2.0). Same problem, no color on model 2 emulator 1.0.
So here's the solution : there's a special .exe for PS2 gpu and monocore CP. The archive is m2emulator v1.0 ps2.zip and you can find it on gametronik. Nebula's official site doesn't have it.

I'm happy he did. Both of you have helped me solve an unresolved issue I've been experiencing for quite some time. So thanks to both of you. I look forward to testing this version. Hopefully it will work.
