  • Help with identifying a processor...

Some of you already know that i purchased a heatsink this past weekend for $1.50 not realizing that there was a processor included. I was actualy going to use the heatsink to cool my WRT54GL and my Westell 6100 ADSL2+ modem instead of the Socket7 heatsink and fan.

This is what i read off the top of the processor...
    Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz/512/533

i figured out it is also called Northwood. there are 4 socketws it is compatable with but i really dont know which one it it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_478 <-- one possible.

The reason for my curiosity is that if it would fit in my laptop (1.5GHZ Pentium M ) because it would be a huge leap in processing power

    I will take pictures soon.

Forget adding it to my laptop -_-
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=92250 <-- *shot* Though the information about not being able to upgrade the Graphic Card is incorrect. you can! and there are 3 options, 2 Nivida and 1 ATI.

    It's likely a 479: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_479

    ...or a Socket M: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_M

...depending on how new the laptop is.
    I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

The laptop is a 479. found that out very easliy due to my processor being 1st gen Centrino XD

As for the P4.... that is what i am wondering about at the moment.

i think it is the 478. now to find a use for it

Might be able to find a cheap motherboard it'd work with, being that it's vaguely out of date now.
