This is a common problem with recordable media. Generally the name on it is entirely unrelated to who manufactured the stuff. As far as I know, most of the ones sold in a physical store these days were either made by CMC Magnetics Corp. or on equipment bought from them. Unfortunately this also means that most of the stuff being sold is pretty low quality. Even Verbatim has some generic company make their discs these days, though it is supposedly with their special dyes.

Sony ANYTHING blows monkey balls ,excep their TV's and Playstation consoles and maybe their blueray player.EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS!!DVD Burners dont have all the supported features a LightOn or anything has, their car stereo/cd players cant read certain disc well I had an older model and then my ex-wife had a nerwer one like 5 years newer and it had a hard time reading certain discs too!I had a home stereo from them that cost me $300 back in the day and it stoped reading discs after a few months!Their Desktops are composed of cheap ass hardware and they charge you an arm and a leg for it,and it's filled with their BLOATWARE,laptops arent far behind either with their BLOATWARE and CRAZY prices again with cheap components, not worth the price.

Most of the stuff they sell, that have lasers and/or any mechanical parts, tend to die easily.
