  • Man kills Mother over video game anger

© Ceres Police Department Matthew Nicholson

A man in Ceres, California (Stanislaus County) allegedly shot and killed his Mother after an argument while playing video games.

According to a report from the Ceres Police Department, 28 year old Matthew Nicholson was playing video games in his room when he got upset and started yelling.

Nicholson's 68 year old mother, Lydia, went to check on her son but Nicholson started arguing with her, and ended up breaking his headset for the video game in an outburst.

Blaming his mother for this, Nicholson threatened to kill both of his parents and retrieved a handgun from inside of the family's home.

Nicholson fired two shots into a wall, and then shot Lydia in the head. Nicholson's 81 year old father wrestled the gun away from his son, and Nicholson drove to a relative's house in Riverbank.

Lydia Nicholson was transported to a hospital for treatment, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

Police apprehended Nicholson in Riverbank without further incident and booked him into the Stanislaus County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

Had to double check that news source to see if it was as unbelievably absurd as it sounded, and they had no extra details. Checked google, same details at dailymail.co and probably everywhere.

      1. You're in your room at your parents at age 28 yelling at a video game.

      2. You get in an argument with your mother who came in wondering WTF you were yelling for and then threatened to kill both of your parents and shot your mother in the head.

Screw that guy, send him away forever. What's the worst that happened? Mommy came in and nagged your for yelling at a video game and that was the last time you were going to listen to that nag? We don't need people like that on this planet. I don't know the entire situation, but I would be incredibly blown away to hear his side and somehow side with him, seems impossible and I can't imagine a scenario for that.

I guess my roommates can end up yelling at games on their headsets while playing online too. Online games are garbage to me because of that. Never do I encounter people playing online and not cussing up a storm to the point where rarely sometimes I tell them to shut the hell up or find a game that's more enjoyable than a miserable online experience where you're either just not good enough or you're getting cheated by cheaters or people using exploits and glitches. In every online game with people fighting other people, somebody's got to lose, and nobody seems to handle losing very well so just stop playing the garbage. I can't understand the idiotic addiction. If somebody made a game where you goal is to kick each other in the nuts as hard as possible and your opponent has a steel jock strap, I'm sure people would still keep coming back like they've got a trophy and grand recognition from the universe for their achievements, but at least hopefully they'd eventually end up incapable of having kids to further breed this idiocy.

I've gotten mad at my dad for yelling at me for me yelling at my video games, but I would NEVER go to the extreme that Norman Bates wannabe did. Sheesh. What a complete waste of DNA.

Realistically, I can easily see it as deserving of people to yell at you for yelling at a game. What do you seriously get out of the game whether you're yelling or not? Find a better thing in life to enjoy, all you're really doing is pressing buttons on a controller that causes a very complicated calculator to generate colors in a specific way on a TV screen based on its input, and you're yelling at the calculator.

You could simplify it down to what it is not that far from and imagine in school if you typed in stuff on the calculator and got the wrong answer so you start screaming at the calculator. If you saw a classmate doing that you'd think "WTF is up with that guy?" and eventually you'd probably get to the point where you'd probably want to yell at them for yelling at something so dumb. Either learn how to use the calculator correctly or do something different, but either way chill out and stop yelling at it because it's ridiculous.

I yell at those damned voice robots that companies use when you call them on the phone. They can't understand anything.

Same here. I left a note in the envelope with my check for my phone company because 2 months of trying and I gave up because it can't understand "Yes" and "No". The next time I called, no more voice recognition junk. Either they were kind enough to read my note, or just by coincidence were getting rid of it and it was at the same time I sent them the note. They gave me back the number system.
