  • One of history's ugliest controllers

The ungainly duke controller for Microsoft's original Xbox is being resurrected by peripheral manufacturer Hyperkin, just in time for backwards compatibility support for the 2001 console coming to the Xbox One.

I thought N64's controller was going to win for its hard to hold and stupidly designed shape with that long middle part going down keeping people from holding the controller in a normal way.

If you slap an upside-down triangle with a joystick to the bottom middle part of that controller and make it longer than either of the 2 side grips, it's basically another unwieldable N64 controller. Is there a close-up of that PS1 controller? It looks like they put the shoulder buttons in the top middle part which also seems like a bad idea. I'm not sure of what the 4 colored buttons below the Playstation logo are, and the thing to the right of the start button looks like it says "SLOW" or something.

Yeah I'm not sure what model that controller is either but here's the "ended" ebay page for it.

That looks like individual auto fire settings for each button. The old PS1 controllers I had with that stuff didn't look anywhere near as strange. Hold the turbo button, press the button you want turbo for until it's at the right turbo speed you want to choose, and done with lights on the controller telling you which buttons have which settings. That controller just looks weird.

There's probably still uglier N64 controllers out there, the design was bad to start with making them impossible to hold and use in a decent way. Thankfully Sony put in 2 joysticks on their PS1 controllers eventually and put them in good spots where they are easy to use and Nintendo and Microsoft went the same directions.

Since the N64 was the first console that I started on, I didn't know any better. It was natural to me.

Dreamcast had the BIGGEST controller I've ever seen for any game system. However, it was NOT the most awkward to use. The n64 controller was the most awkward to use, especially for some games featuring button-sequence-based cheat codes. There was one Star Wars game where you had to hold all four C buttons, L, R, Z, A, B and Start down, and then somehow move the joystick left, right, left, right. I wonder how many people successfully pulled it off...?

Time flies, therefore, seize the day.

The dreamcast did have a big controller but I still think sony has bigger controllers, like this thing. And it's definitely bigger than the NES Advantage. Source

L3 & R3 are usually "stick clicks".... so Idk if that's possible on that controller or not lol.
