Diabetes Drug Invokana Must Warn Patients About Increased Risk Of Foot Leg Amputation

A new class of diabetes medicines is heavily advertised on TV and shows great promise in getting patients’ blood sugar levels down, but a safety announcement from the Food and Drug Administration warns that one of the drugs, Johnson & Johnson’s Invokana, doubles those patients’ chance of needing parts of their legs or feet amputated.

People with diabetes are already at risk of having lower limbs amputated because of circulatory and nerve damage that the disease does over time. However, in two clinical trials of the drug canagliflozin, marketed as Invokana, Invokamet, and Invokamet XR, patients taking the drug were twice as likely to need amputations.

I'm sure all of the worst human beings in the medical/pharmaceutical/whatever fields would still like this more than the many cures for diabetes out there. A leg amputation means keep coming to the doctor and spending those hard earned dollars. There's stuff out there to regrow basically any missing limbs from what I remember too, but I doubt I'd ever see that out in the open due to people learning what it is made out and possibly considering killing other human beings to get large quantities of it. There was research from Texas involving getting taking hog intestines and using some special detergent to remove a bunch of stuff and leave behind this very specific thing from intestines. They made it in powder form and were testing it with a Marine who lost his entire leg from battle. A year later he had a new perfectly functioning leg grown from nothing that worked just as well if not better than his other leg that he didn't lose. That research must be from at least 7 years ago by now.
