  • Romhacking.net shut down?

I noticed that for the past couple days, Romhacking.net has been down. Then I saw this:

    https://twitter.com/Romhacking_net/with_replies

I'm not sure if that twitter is truly official, but things sound bad. RHDN has been a great site for modding old games, and it would be a shame to see it go. Also pretty depressing since I had some of my own projects there, and I was working with a group on a Ninja Gaiden hack that was nearing completion.

it must be Nintendo's doing. like Atari tell The Emulator Zone to removed Atari related emulators from the site years ago yeah it did happens

if we still have dislike button, i will dislkie it. it was good website but i now can't download Streets of Rage hacks where it let you play as different characters from other franchises. although Sonic hacks is still around somewhere so does Mortal Kombat

EDIT: i hope Gamehacking will stay around

Hopefully it's fake, I'll keep my fingers crossed. That'd be pretty cruel prank to pull, but I guess there are all kinds on the internet. That twitter has only been around two months, they could've just been waiting for an opportunity for the site to go down for more than 24 hours.

Edit: It looks like its fake:

I found their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/romhacki...=page_internal but there's NOTHING posted about that closure, however the last official publication there from the organization was on February 9th...

Although, I think if this about romhacking.net's shutdown due to Nintendo's steps against it is real, this means for Nintendo's fanbase's made so many various interesting hacks and translations, they are officially LOST the battle with Nintendo's management because they cannot say "NO" towards official warnings from Nintendo's management and cannot do anything against them when it comes to the copyrights for their games no matter how brutal it is.

I think even if romhacking.net stills remains active, even in the BEST case, they would have to REMOVE ALL HACKS, TOOLS, LEVEL EDITORS and TRANSLATIONS made by the fans published there which are related to ANY Nintendo's gamesystem, including NES, Super NES, Game Boy (Color), Nintendo64 and NintendoDS. In this case probably we will be able to get from romhacking.net only hacks, transitions and tools made for other games' manufacturers as Microsoft XBOX and XBOX 360, Sony Playstation 1, 2, 3 and Portable, and Sega CD, Genesis, Saturn and Master System. But appears there's NO way for making any hacks, tools or transitions for ANY Nintendo games and systems anymore because appears Nintendo's management just doesn't want anyone to make anything related to any their game in any way, and NOBODY can win against their copyright actions...

I cannot forget when they had shutdown the Super Mario Bros's Java cross-platform level editor about 2 years ago, as Nintendo has sent an EULA warning to it's author and he had no choice but to close his website related to his project and do discard development of his SMB1 Level Editor abandoning it - appears nobody can says "NO" towards Nintendo's EULA copyrights warnings, sadly...

Jesus christ, you guys are overblowing and overreacting like crazy.

That romhacking twitter is a fake account. Nintendo didn't shut down anything because romhacking doesn't host fucking ROMs, and patches are not illegal.

The site is just down, it will be back up eventually. And if it's not, then it will be sad but no one will die because of it. Another site will take its place or they will rebuild it again.

I've actually opened the Twitter link from second @darkmoon2321's post and seems this Twitter's romhacking.net profile is non-real and is most likely a fake and the romhacking.net itself is just temporary offline, since on their official Facebook page there was nothing published about anything related to any closure of their site at all...

After recent events, i'll expect anything from Nintendo or other IP owners to shut down anything related to their IPs.
That being said, i'm glad the twitter account is fake.

                            Yeah no shiz.

The owner of romhacking already said they are not dead, but it's going to take time to get the site back online since he's busy with real life stuff.

Patches are not illegal, so stop imagining bullshit already.
