The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced a food recall involving "approximately 4,530 pounds of chicken nuggets products" produced for Applegate Farms, by Perdue Foods LLC, according to a statement.
The chicken nuggets "may be contaminated with extraneous plastic materials," the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said in a news release.
The effected nuggets are the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets, produced on Sept. 28, 2015. The 8-ounce boxed packages contain approximately 18 pieces of "Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets" with Best Before Date 09/27/2016. The products subject to recall bear establishment number "P-2617" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York and Texas, the statement says.
The problem was discovered when Perdue Foods LLC received consumer complaints of small, solid, clear plastic inside the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets, according to the statement.
There have been no reports of adverse reactions because of consumption of these products, according to the statement.
It also says, "consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."
A statement on Applegate Natural & Organic Meats' website says no other products are affected by this recall.
