Microsoft pushes its Kinect sensor as the perfect gaming and entertainment companion - from a vast array of in-game abilities like recording video and taking pictures to helping you navigate to just the right movie or TV show.
It appears, however, that it might work a bit too well.
Some users are reporting that a new commercial for the Xbox One featuring Breaking Bad alumnus Aaron Paul is accidentally activating their consoles. In the spot, Paul gives the "Xbox on" command to turn on his Xbox One, but turns out he's also turning on the consoles of everyone watching the commercial at home, according to the BBC.
Xbox owners have been posting on Twitter and video games forum NeoGAF to report the amusing, yet probably annoying, glitch.
There has been no comment yet from Microsoft on the issue, but Xbox One owners can easily fix the problem by disabling the Kinect's microphone or completely turning it off.
The ad comes as Microsoft starts selling a Kinect-less Xbox One for $399. Those with buyers remorse can buy the standalone sensor later this fall.
When the Xbox One was revealed last year, the Kinect was heavily pushed as an integral part of the Xbox One experience. But as CNN pointed out, Microsoft barely mentioned Kinect during its press conference at this year's E3 in Los Angeles.
This isn't the first time that a commercial for Xbox accidentally activated the Kinect's voice commands. A video uploaded last November showed someone playing a commercial on their computer where the actress said "Xbox go to Dead Rising 3" and the user's own Xbox heard the command.
The perils of voice-activated TV was the subject of a 2011 episode of 30 Rock.
