  • SOE announces H1Z1 zombie survival MMO

Lone survivors battle undead, other players

    By Connor Sheridan

Sony Online Entertainment is making a zombie survival MMO called H1Z1.

SOE president John Smedley told Game Talk Live, in an interview provided to Polygon, that the game will set players as survivors in a world overrun with zombies. "A world! Not just a little tiny server."

Smedley said the first-person game will have a day-night cycle which will make survivors use light sources to find their way, which may give away their position much like in DayZ. Unlike DayZ, players will be able to have a greater destructive impact on the world itself.

"We are in the middle of putting that in so you are going to be able to burn down trees, burn down stuff, and that's going to be a lot of fun," Smedley said. "The idea is that these players are building these forts and all of the sudden these other guys coming in lighting it on fire and waiting till they come out of the fortress."

Smedley said on Twitter that fans will be able to play the game "fully" soon. The complete video interview with Smedley will go online Wednesday at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.

An atmospheric teaser site for the game was discovered earlier this week.

Sony Online Entertainment's other current projects include PlanetSide 2, EverQuest Next, and EverQuest Next Landmark.
